Meet the New Font Families

Aoto Gothic (EL / L / R / M / DB / B / EB)

Aoto Gothic is a text sans serif typeface developed for use on screen. Its slightly modern style, simple and clean structure, and smaller letter face enable to create a different expression from that by conventional modern sans serifs such as universal design types. The Latin alphabet of Aoto Gothic is based on Sharoa Pro, and italics are also provided.

A1 Mincho (AP) (R / M / B)

A1 Mincho (AP) is an old-style Mincho typeface that has been cherished since the beginning of Morisawa. It is characterized by the unique flavor created by the curves of kanji characters and the graceful expressions of kana characters. The typeface replicates the ink spread found at the intersections of strokes of phototypesetting, imparting a gentle and natural warmth. In the AP version, “A1 Mincho” has expanded from the traditional single weight to three weights (R/M/B). Additionally, its Latin characters have been redesigned with inspiration drawn from classical designs rooted in 16th-century France, offering a renewed and classical aesthetic.

Ishii Gothic (L / R / M / B / EB)

Ishii Gothic is an old-style sans serif based on Gothic type designed by Sha-Ken founder Mokichi Ishii, updated with modern adjustments and expanded into a full family. It retains classic elements such as vertical strokes, stroke modulation, and flowing sweeps. At lighter weights, it creates a bright and clear appearance for body text, while heavier weights offer a sense of tension, making it ideal for headlines.

Ishii Mincho (L / R / M / B)

Ishii Mincho updates the Mincho type designed by Sha-Ken founder Mokichi Ishii into a modern serif typeface family. It combines graceful kanji with a lithe skeleton and kana reminiscent of brush-stroked block-style script, offering both elegance and precision. This versatile Mincho family is ideal for body text, providing a composed and refined appearance.

Ishii Mincho Oldstyle Kana (L / R / M / B)

Ishii Mincho Oldstyle Kana builds upon the Mincho type designed by Sha-Ken founder Mokichi Ishii, incorporating modern refinements and expanding into a type family. It features the same graceful kanji with a lithe skeleton as Ishii Mincho, complemented by kana with flowing brushwork inspired by metal typesetting. This versatile Mincho family adds rhythm to body text and creates striking headlines, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

Kuretake Meiseki

Kuretake Meiseki is an old-style sans serif type that combines the Meiseki and Kuretake typefaces. Meiseki is a kanji type inspired by the characters inscribed on the epitaph of Wang Xingzhi in the Jin dynasty (265–420) excavated in the suburbs of China’s Nanjing City in 1965. Kuretake is a kana typeface designed based on the characters from the type specimen Kappan Soran published in 1933 by Morikawa Ryobundo Type Foundry in Japan. The style of Kuretake Meiseki is based on the Chinese clerical script reisho with a touch of engraving, creating a nostalgic and simple charm.

Genroku Shian

Genroku Shian is a brush script typeface combining the kanji typeface Shian with the kana typeface Genroku. Shian is based on the type from Classified and Annotated Poems of Li Taibai published in Fujian Province in China during the Yuan dynasty (1279–1368). Genroku is inspired by the type used in Seken mune sanyo (This Scheming World), a fairy-tale book (ukiyo-zoshi) written by Ihara Saikaku during Japan’s Genroku period (1688–1704). While being well-designed as a typeface, its undulating stroke beginnings and endings and the nuances of brush strokes in its condensed letter shape create a sense of dynamism and dignity not seen in any other typeface. It adds an eye-catching effect to your design projects.
